SXS Sway Bar Links: What You Should Know
- by Landon McMath

UTV sway bar links connect the sway bar to the suspension. If you hear a clunk over bumps or see a bent link, worn joint, or loose mount, inspect the connection before deciding what to replace. Start by identifying the vehicle’s model year, trim, and whether the link is on the front or rear.
The sway bar resists the difference in suspension movement from one side to the other as the vehicle rolls. The links transfer that motion between the suspension and the bar. Replacing worn links can take up play at the connection. The bar and the rest of the suspension setup still determine how the machine behaves.
A clunk can come from a link joint, a sway bar bushing, or another suspension component. Look for bent hardware, damaged joints or bushings, and witness marks around the mounting points. If you find a cracked mount or a change in handling, have the machine inspected before riding again. Use DRT’s UTV suspension maintenance guide for the broader inspection.
An adjustable link lets you set its installed length within the kit’s specified range. This can matter when matching a replacement to the suspension geometry or setting the bar up after an approved suspension change. Follow the kit’s instructions for length, thread engagement, and hardware. Link adjustment is separate from changing the sway bar’s spring rate.
Use your exact model, year, seat count, and mounting position to identify the kit. For example, DRT lists its 2022+ Polaris RZR Pro R rear sway bar link kit for the rear on two- and four-seat Pro R models. The 2024+ Polaris XPEDITION front sway bar link kit is a separate front application. Confirm the exact part before ordering, particularly if you have a trim or suspension package that differs from the listing.
Before removing hardware, check the DRT installation guide index for the exact SKU and use the vehicle manual for support points and service procedures. Check the specified fastener torque, spacer orientation, and link clearance. For an example of how the factory inspection schedule is organized, see the Polaris RZR Pro R owner’s manual for the matching model year.
